Facebook is a global social media giant. Government relationships around the world are extremely important to the company from a policy and business standpoint. Pilar Frank O’Leary worked closely with a cross-functional team to develop a public policy engagement strategy for Latin America and then helped execute it. She facilitated and conducted visits with top Latin American government officials from Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Brazil, including organizing a visit between Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos. She also helped design and implement a series of Facebook training initiatives for Colombia, Argentina, Mexico and Chile related to internet safety, small business, e-government and other programs for low income communities across the region and helped coordinate the official opening of the company’s new Buenos Aires sales office with leading government officials. Today, Facebook enjoys a strong relationship with various governments in Latin America and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has traveled to Colombia for a high-profile visit.
